LOS ANGELES – As part of Los Angeles Mayor Karen Bass’ focused efforts to clean up the city, Mayor Bass hosted the second Service Day LA today, a community clean-up and beautification effort bringing together more than 200 volunteers to clean nearby parks, businesses and homes in South L.A. The City of Los Angeles Department of Public Works supported the clean-up by removing illegal dumping and bulky items, planting trees, filling potholes and conducting other maintenance activities. “Today’s Service Day L.A. is about building momentum to clean our city and prepare to host the world in the coming years for the World Cup and the Olympic and Paralympic Games," said Mayor Karen Bass. “I am incredibly grateful to our partners, community members and volunteers who came out on a Saturday morning to make a cleaner, safer Los Angeles.”
In December 2024, Mayor Bass launched Service Day L.A, the new community clean-up effort bringing together more than 100 Mayor’s Office staff, high school students and community members to clean a major thoroughfare in Los Angeles.
The Office of Mayor Bass will continue hosting community events throughout the year to bring Angelenos together with a shared purpose of cleaning and preparing our neighborhoods to be on the world stage. Mayor Bass has directed Public Works Departments to improve upon and make processes more efficient to keep City streets and public spaces clean.
