LOS ANGELES – Mayor Bass today issued the following statement in support of Congresswoman Maxine Waters’ legislative housing package that includes the Housing Crisis Response Act of 2023, the Ending Homelessness Act of 2023 and the Downpayment Toward Equity Act of 2023:
“Congresswoman Waters has led the fight in the United States House of Representatives to confront the homelessness crisis for years. During the COVID-19 pandemic, it was Congresswoman Waters who ensured that resources for the unhoused were in all of the rescue packages we passed in Congress. Now, Congresswoman Waters continues to move the ball forward. These proposals that are now being introduced demonstrate the exact urgency that is needed at the federal level to confront the housing and homelessness crisis not only in Los Angeles but in cities across the country. With 40,000 Angelenos sleeping on our streets every night, we must take action at every level of government to treat this issue like the emergency that it is. I want to thank Ranking Member Waters for continuing to lead the way on this important issue and will do whatever I can to support her efforts to get these bills to the President’s desk.”
