Delivering a Games for All

“The 2028 Games are an opportunity to reimagine our infrastructure, strengthen community resilience, and expand opportunity for all Angelenos — a true ‘Games for All’. This is my Vision for the 2028 Games — an LA made better for all Angelenos. We will accelerate street projects, streamline City processes and permitting requirements, and make sure that we are taking advantage of the economic impact when we welcome the world. L.A. will shine on the world stage.” -- Mayor Karen Bass

1 Million Enrollments in PlayLA

PlayLA is one way that 2028 Games are supporting Mayor Bass’ vision of ensuring that Angelenos across the City benefit from the Games. Play LA is operated by the Department of Recreation and Parks and funded by a $160 million investment from LA28 and the International Olympic Committee. The funding allows greater access to youth sports programming by providing enhanced sports programs and steeply discounted — and in some cases free — enrollment.

A banner on the side of the bus reads ‘Highland’ and displays the U.S. Olympic and Paralympic logos with American flags. The bus has a red stop sign extended on its side and green wheel accents, indicating it is an electric vehicle.

Highland Fleets Partnership

For the 2028 Olympic and Paralympic Games, 500 zero-emission, electric school buses from local districts that would otherwise take a break from their routes during the summer will be repurposed to assist in transport operations during the Games. Mayor Bass and LA28 are committed to minimizing the environmental footprint of Games operations and delivering a sustainable event that leaves a lasting positive impact on Los Angeles.

Q. Who is organizing the 2028 Games?

LA28 is the non-profit organization responsible for planning, financing, and executing the 2028 Olympic and Paralympic Games. LA28 works directly with the City of Los Angeles, the International Olympic Committee (IOC) and International Paralympic Committee (IPC).

Q. What is the City’s role in the 2028 Games?

The City of Los Angeles is the Host City of the 2028 Olympic and Paralympic Games. Selected by the International Olympic Committee (IOC) and International Paralympic Committee (IPC), Los Angeles is the central point for events, athlete housing, and community celebrations. The City provides essential services and leads city coordination while partnering with LA28.

Q. How will the City benefit from hosting the 2028 Games?

The Los Angeles region is anticipating nearly $18 Billion in economic activity and 90,000 job opportunities as a direct result of hosting the 2028 Games. Beyond economic impact, the City of Los Angeles believes that the Games are more than a summer spectacle; they can be a catalyst to reimagine civic infrastructure, strengthen community resilience, and expand opportunity for all Angelenos — a “Games for All.” Powered by art, culture, and play, this vision will continue to strengthen the city long after 2028 with neighborhoods activated, civic spaces reimagined, and a renewed sense of belonging and stewardship felt across every corner.

Q. How is Mayor Bass ensuring the success of the 2028 Games?

Mayor Bass created the Office of Major Events to oversee the delivery of a safe, successful, and fiscally responsible 2028 Olympic and Paralympic Games. Mayor Bass also signed Executive Directive 16 to streamline city preparations. To ensure equity across all Games efforts, Mayor Bass hired the City’s first Accessibility Chief in the Office of Major Events and signed an Accessibility Commitment.
