Thousands of Residents Under ‘Do Not Drink’ Notice Can Resume Tap Water Usage for All Purposes as Work To Rebuild Continues
LOS ANGELES – Los Angeles Mayor Karen Bass today announced that the Los Angeles Department of Water and Power (LADWP) restored safe drinking water to about 2,000 standing residential and commercial customers in the Palisades.
“Our priority continues to be making sure recovery in the Palisades is as rapid and safe as possible, and this progress exemplifies that,” Mayor Bass said. “In addition to flushing the system, LADWP crews continue to be hard at work testing the water to make sure it's safe, and they will stay at it until every customer is restored. LADWP workers’ efforts to restore water and power is a key part of why the recovery is months ahead of expectations.”
Mayor Bass noted that power has been restored to most homes and businesses in the Pacific Palisades area that are able to safely receive power. LADWP crews continue to complete more complex temporary repairs to continue connecting individual customers to circuits that have been restored.
The restored customers are located in the 90402 zip code and in portions of the 90272 zip code east of Temescal Canyon Road and south of Bestor Boulevard.

“As we mark this tremendous progress, we remain committed to continue working every day to restore water quality to all residents in Pacific Palisades and adjacent affected areas,” said LADWP CEO & Chief Engineer Janisse Quiñones. “We thank all our affected customers for their patience and cooperation as we continue to work closely with state regulators to restore water quality in the Palisades.”
LADWP will notify customers in service zones 529 and 310 of the cancellation of the Do Not Drink Notice via e-mail, door-to-door notifications, pre-recorded phone messages, local signage, social media channels and online resources. Information will include a guide for customers on how to flush water pipes to clear residual water from pipes connecting their homes and businesses to their water meters.
The Do Not Drink Water Notice cancellation for services zones 529 and 310 is available here.
The Do Not Drink Water Notice remains in effect for the following seven service zones in the Pacific Palisades zip code 90272: 330, 375, 498, 720, 1137, 1345 and 1645.
LADWP crews continue to work 7-days a week to flush and test water pipes in the remaining service areas and will continue until water quality is fully restored and the Do Not Drink notice is lifted.
See the below tips from LADWP on flushing your water before use:
Prepare your site for flushing. Remove aerators and screens from all faucets. Set water-softening devices and filters, both point-of-use and whole-house, to “bypass mode.”
Flush outside plumbing. Open and flush any external fixtures and hose bibs/faucets for about 10 minutes or until water is clear and temperature is constant.
Flush cold water. Run all cold-water faucets on the property beginning with the faucet closest to the water line. Run the water at the highest flow (or fully open) for about 10 minutes or until water is clear and temperature is constant. Then turn off all faucets in reverse order.
Flush all toilets and urinals. Do this at least once but repeat if the refilled water is not clear.
Flush hot water. Drain your hot water tank to discharge any accumulated sediments. Wait for the hot water tank to refill and flush as in Step 3.
Clean aerators and screens and reattach to faucets, shower heads, and fixtures.
Flush appliances. Run an empty dishwasher and washing machine once on the rinse cycle. Empty ice from ice maker bin; run ice maker and discard 2 additional batches of ice.
Restore all removed filters and reset all water devices from “bypass mode.”
