LOS ANGELES – Los Angeles Mayor Karen Bass announced the latest Inside Safe operation that brought nearly 30 Angelenos indoors and moved more than 10 RVs from an encampment near several businesses in El Sereno on Tuesday. Through this operation, families with young children including a baby were brought inside and are receiving life-saving services and resources. B-roll from the operation is available here.
“Leaving people on the street affects everyone – small businesses, residents and the Angelenos who live in RVs and tents,” said Mayor Karen Bass. “Because of Inside Safe, thousands of unhoused Angelenos have received the assistance they needed, residents feel safer and these small businesses can thrive. Homelessness is down but the urgent work is far from over.”
"Ensuring folks have access to housing is key to building strong communities,” said Councilmember Ysabel Jurado. “Inside Safe is an important piece of that puzzle connecting Angelenos experiencing homelessness with housing and supportive services."
Since the beginning of this year, more than 350 Angelenos have been moved inside through Inside Safe, contributing to the resolution of over 90 encampments. Since her first day in office when she declared an unprecedented emergency on the homelessness crisis, Mayor Karen Bass has driven change in how we address homelessness with new initiatives to bring people living in encampments inside. She has also worked to prevent people from losing their homes and to lock arms across all levels of government to move people inside and save lives and restore neighborhoods.
Tent encampments have come down in every council district, and thousands more Angelenos came inside than in 2022 thanks to action locking arms with the City Council, County and LAHSA. The mayor has worked to improve services provided for unhoused Angelenos coming inside and has also been vocal about the need to make homelessness programs more cost effective as this urgent work continues.
