LOS ANGELES – Los Angeles Mayor Karen Bass today lauded the completion of Phase 1 debris removal in the Palisades, which comes months ahead of expectations. This morning, Mayor Bass will discuss the achievement at an Impacted Worker and Family Recovery Center. Hundreds of Angelenos have received assistance at these centers since opening. Press can RSVP by emailing lamayornews@lacity.org.
“Recovery continues to progress months ahead of expectations, and we will keep pushing forward. Today marks another milestone in our commitment to rebuilding the Palisades as quickly and safely as possible. Thank you to the EPA and their many crews,” Mayor Bass said.
Last week, the first Palisades property was cleared of all fire debris, completing both Phase 1 and Phase 2 debris removal. Phase 1 debris removal is conducted by the U.S. EPA and involves highly toxic materials such as electric vehicle batteries. Phase 2 debris removal is a full clearing of a lot to prepare it for rebuilding.
Mayor Bass’ work to accelerate the rebuilding of the Palisades includes her emergency executive directive on streamlined rebuilding that directs City departments to expedite all building permit review/inspections, bypass state CEQA discretionary review, allow rebuilding “like for like” and waive City discretionary review processes. She also created the LA One Stop Rebuilding Center so that any questions or needs from the City can be addressed under one roof. The One-Stop Rebuilding Center is at 1828 Sawtelle Blvd., Los Angeles, CA 90025, and is open Monday - Friday, 10 AM - 8 PM; Saturday & Sunday, 10 AM - 4 PM. Additional recovery and rebuilding information for Palisades residents and businesses is available at LACity.gov.
