LOS ANGELES – Mayor Bass’ Inside Safe program continued its successful strategy to decrease homelessness across Los Angeles by bringing more than 70 Angelenos inside from encampments in Westchester, Westlake and East Hollywood. By resolving these long-standing encampments, access to commercial corridors, schools and homes have been restored, aiding in improving public safety concerns in these neighborhoods.

“Resolving these encampments returns thoroughfares to residents and helps improve public safety in these communities,” said Mayor Bass. “No one deserves to live in these unsafe conditions. We will continue this work with the urgency it deserves, saving lives and restoring neighborhoods.”

Encampments across the city not only create unsafe environments for the unhoused but also raise public safety concerns for nearby residents. The safety of Angelenos is Mayor Bass’ number one priority, and addressing homeless encampments is part of her comprehensive approach toward public safety. By keeping Angelenos housed, communities feel safer and first responders are able to better respond to emergencies across Los Angeles.

Key to Inside Safe’s work is monitoring former operation sites to address the repopulation of new encampments that may occur. Inside Safe returned to streets in Westlake this week to respond to new encampments, successfully housing more Angelenos. This work has proven successful in keeping encampments clear and preventing them from returning to communities.

Mayor Bass’ work to address the humanitarian crisis has produced real results for Angelenos. Since she declared a state of emergency on homelessness on her first day in office, Los Angeles has seen a consecutive two-year decline in homelessness – a first for Los Angeles. The Mayor’s Inside Safe program has conducted over 100 encampment resolutions across the city, helping bring inside thousands in the process.

This comprehensive approach to homelessness also focuses on preventing Angelenos from falling into homelessness in the first place. Mayor Bass has taken the following actions to continue supporting Angelenos:

  • Accelerating the building of more than 30,000 affordable housing units.

  • Implementing a research-proven anti-eviction program through the Mayor’s Fund, preventing Angelenos from falling into homelessness.

  • Advancing innovative housing solutions through LA4LA, expanding the ability to build housing on City land.
