LOS ANGELES - Mayor Karen Bass issued the following statement:

“President Biden’s address reminds us of what can be accomplished when we have a leader in the White House who is focused on getting things done as opposed to tearing the nation apart..

“Through his leadership to enact the Bipartisan Infrastructure Law, Inflation Reduction Act, and Bipartisan Safer Communities Act, the Biden-Haris Administration is delivering investments in Los Angeles that are transforming our infrastructure, addressing climate change, and helping to make Los Angeles more livable for all.

“With President Biden’s partnership, more than 3,365 Angelenos moved into permanent housing through emergency housing vouchers delivered through his American Rescue Plan and the administration provided historic waivers to cut through bureaucracy and moved more formerly unhoused Angelenos indoors. In the midst of a global pandemic, the Biden-Harris Administration also provided relief for local small businesses and helped the City keep essential workers on the payroll and continue delivering critical services.

“When the 10 freeway fire closed a major portion of the highway, President Biden made it known that Los Angeles had federal support to rebuild quickly and Vice President Harris stood with us as we announced the reopening in record time. When Los Angeles experienced historic, record rainfall in February of this year, President Biden quite literally called to make sure Angelenos knew that again, he and his administration were on standby to help us get through the event.

“President Biden is a partner with me and a partner to our city. I look forward to continuing our work together to bring more people inside, to make sure that housing is available and affordable, to promote green jobs and make this city more livable for working people.”

Mayor Bass is leading an international delegation to generate business development and learn about innovative housing, green transportation and infrastructure projects to prepare Los Angeles ahead of the 2028 Olympic and Paralympic Games.
