Mayor Bass to Criss-Cross Los Angeles Highlighting Accomplishments During First Year in Office

Bass to announce thousands housed, major California business to relocate to Los Angeles and progress on increasing safety, protecting climate and improving city services

LOS ANGELES – Los Angeles Mayor Karen Bass today announced that she will criss-cross Los Angeles ahead of her first year anniversary on December 12th, highlighting work on homelessness, safety, business, climate and city services. In the coming week, Mayor Bass will participate in events in West Los Angeles, the San Fernando Valley, East Los Angeles, Mid-City, South Los Angeles, San Pedro and Downtown.

“This year, we have confronted challenges before us with urgency and unity,” said Mayor Karen Bass. “Together, we brought thousands of Angelenos inside who were suffering on our streets. Together, we invested in a comprehensive safety strategy that has resulted in a recent record of police academy applications as well as expansions of community-based safety solutions. Together, we’re attracting businesses to come to our city, building a greener Los Angeles and improving city services. When we were faced with crises – whether it was a hurricane or a disastrous fire, we got through them together – and together, with urgency, collaboration and innovation, we will continue to build a better future in every neighborhood, for every Angeleno. Nothing will stop Los Angeles.”

The below lays out Mayor Bass’ week ahead as she approaches her one year mark in office on December 12, 2023.

Monday, December 4: Mayor Bass to Highlight Expanded and Improved City Services and Efforts to Build a Greener Los Angeles 

In San Pedro, Mayor Bass will host a press conference and highlight her work to improve city services as well as her work to make Metro safer and more accessible for all. She will also attend a CleanLA graduation where graduates will join the City workforce to better Los Angeles. 

In Van Nuys, Mayor Bass will visit a water reclamation plant, which will establish a new, resilient and sustainable drought-proof supply of water for more than 250,000 Angelenos. Mayor Bass will host a press conference and highlight her work over the past year to build a greener Los Angeles. 

Tuesday, December 5: Mayor Bass to Announce New Business Coming To Los Angeles, Expand on Efforts To Help Businesses Open, Thrive and Grow

Mayor Bass will announce a major California business moving to Los Angeles as well as a business contract financing program to support procurement opportunities with the city. Mayor Bass will highlight the results of her actions to open Los Angeles for business in San Fernando Valley during a fireside chat with business leaders. Later, Mayor Bass will highlight the progress of LAX’s $30 billion capital improvement program and connect with small business owners who are benefitting from the City’s Al Fresco dining program that Mayor Bass is working to make permanent. Thousands of businesses have opened in Los Angeles since December 2022.

Wednesday, December 6: Mayor Bass to Announce Thousands of Angelenos Brought Inside During First Year, Continues to Cut Red Tape and Build More Housing Faster

Mayor Bass will announce at a press conference that thousands of Angelenos have come inside since December 2022. The Mayor will also highlight accomplishments from fostering new levels of collaboration, cutting red tape and removing bureaucratic barriers to bring unhoused Angelenos inside. She will also highlight efforts to build more housing faster during her first year in office and host a press roundtable to review data and progress. 

Thursday, December 7: Mayor Bass to Highlight Progress With LAPD Hiring and Retention and New Investments in Comprehensive Strategy to Keep Angelenos Safe During First Year

Mayor Bass will highlight comprehensive efforts to make Los Angeles safer and attend a Community Intervention Workers graduation in Watts. She will start her day by speaking with a class of LAPD recruits. In August, the LAPD announced that 1,048 people applied to the department, the largest number of applications in a single month since September 2020.
