LOS ANGELES – Los Angeles Mayor Karen Bass announced an Inside Safe operation today in partnership with City Councilmember Monica Rodriguez. The efforts of Inside Safe’s Field Intervention Team housed more than 15 Angelenos and cleared multiple RVs and cars in the Pacoima neighborhood. Photos and B-roll of the operations available here.
The operation follows the Mayor’s State of the City address on Monday, during which she renewed her commitment to implementing disruptive, systemic change to address homelessness. Her speech acknowledged concerns over public safety and the effect of homelessness on all residents while highlighting the overall reduction in homelessness and crime under her leadership.
“We are not stopping or slowing down,” said Mayor Karen Bass. “We are moving thousands more people from the streets than before we took office, and more Angelenos are being moved into permanent housing than ever before. Now all of this comes as, nationwide, homelessness went up by 18 percent – but not in Los Angeles — our work continues across the city.”
Since the beginning of this year, more than 450 Angelenos have been moved inside through Inside Safe operations and response efforts across all 15 Council Districts, providing life-saving case management and services to all who enroll. More than 90 encampments have been resolved since the beginning of the program.
Since her first day in office when she declared an unprecedented emergency on the homelessness crisis, Mayor Karen Bass has driven change in how we address homelessness with new initiatives to bring people living in encampments inside. She has also worked to prevent people from losing their homes and to lock arms across all levels of government to move people inside and save lives and restore neighborhoods.
Tent encampments have come down in every council district, and thousands more Angelenos came inside last year than in 2022 thanks to action locking arms with the City Council, County and LAHSA. Mayor Bass has worked to improve services provided for unhoused Angelenos coming inside and has also been vocal about the need to make homelessness programs more cost effective as this urgent work continues.
