Shine LA

Created by Mayor Bass, Shine LA is a movement that strengthens communities by bringing Angleneos together from across the city to beautify LA neighborhoods. With major global events just around the corner – the 2025 FIFA World Cup, 2027 Superbowl and 2028 Olympic and Paralympic Games – Shine LA inspires Angelenos to take pride in preparing their communities to step onto the world stage.

Since launching in April, Shine LA has brought together more than 2,000 Angelenos for a day of service in more than 30 neighborhoods across Los Angeles. From San Pedro, Koreatown, Pacoima, Hollywood to Sherman Oaks and South LA, volunteers have participated in activities such as tree planting, utility box painting, loose litter pick-up to educational programming on composting.

Shine LA is every fourth Saturday of the month in neighborhoods across Los Angeles.

What Community Members Are Saying:

Rev. Sam Shin, President, Hwarang Youth Foundation

“We are proud to join Mayor Bass’ Shine LA to give back to our communities. At Hwarang Youth Foundation, we believe that youth leadership begins with service – and it was inspiring to see many young people step up to make our city cleaner, safer, and stronger. We look forward to continuing this important work together.”

Veronica Padilla Campos, Executive Director, Paicoma Beautiful

“Pacoima Beautiful is proud to partner with the Mayor’s Office on Shine LA to celebrate Earth Day to bring a meaningful, community-centered clean up gardening day, and environmental justice related resource fair to Pacoima. It’s inspiring to see residents show up, rain or shine, to celebrate health, connection, and resilience.”

Kathleen Rawson, President and CEO, Hollywood Partnership

“The Hollywood Partnership was honored to stand alongside Mayor Bass and Councilmember Hugo Soto-Martinez for Shine LA. Even the rain couldn’t wash away the incredible spirit of unity, hope, and pride that brought over 500 people together to uplift and care for our beloved Hollywood. This is what community looks like.”

Cassy Horton, Co-Founder,  Downtown LA Residents Association

“Downtown is for every Angeleno, and events like Shine LA remind us that supporting Downtown isn’t just good for the neighborhood, it’s good for all of LA. DTLA is a diverse, vibrant residential neighborhood of 90,000 people — 30,000 of whom are immigrants. Our neighbors, small business owners, and entire community is facing an especially difficult moment right now. Downtowners are resilient, but we can’t navigate this moment alone. That’s why having a Shine LA event focused on DTLA was especially timely and important. It gave locals and fellow Angelenos the chance to stand together and do some good in the heart of our city. We’re grateful for Mayor Karen Bass, the City team, Council Member Ysabel Jurado, and Assemblymember Mark Gonzalez for shining a light on our home, and we hope that we can keep the investment, collaboration and care going.”
