LOS ANGELES – Yesterday, Mayor Bass continued her Shine LA movement by joining AANHPI leaders to honor Asian American, Native Hawaiian and Pacific Islander Heritage Month. More than 1,000 Angelenos volunteered across 10 different sites in Los Angeles with the goal to beautify, clean and green City neighborhoods ahead of the City hosting major global events. Claudia Quadrino, Park Programs Manager, Los Angeles Neighborhood Land Trust

“The Los Angeles Neighborhood Land Trust is dedicated to our mission of park equity, and we build our park and garden spaces exclusively in communities of color that lack access to green spaces. We are so grateful to collaborate with our city representatives and community partners to beautify our Unidad Park and the surrounding Historic Filipinotown community to honor AANHPI Heritage Month. We are committed to beautifying Unidad Park this month and year-round to ensure that the Historic Filipinotown neighborhood always has access to a special park space to gather, play, and build community.”

Kimmy Maniquis, Executive Director, Search to Involve Pilipino Americans (SIPA)

“As we close AANHPI Heritage Month, it’s powerful to see our communities come together in service. Beautifying our neighborhoods is more than just physical transformation—it’s a reflection of pride, belonging, solidarity and collective action.”

Johng Ho Song, Executive Director, Koreatown Youth and Community Center (KYCC)

“KYCC is creating a greener, cleaner, and healthier community for our families in Koreatown, today and every day. This event reflects the good that neighbors can do together. Thanks to Mayor Bass and her leadership, thousands of Angelenos will benefit from greening our community for years to come.”

Peter Ng, President and CEO, Chinatown Service Center

“This is a meaningful way for our youth who volunteered to clean up and to learn teamwork while giving back to the community. As we participated in the Shine LA - AAPI Day of Service, we also welcome everyone to visit Chinatown, discover its historic landmarks, and enjoy our authentic cuisine.”

Chanchanit (Chancee) Martorell, Founder & Executive Director, Thai Community Development Center

“When you participate in a neighborhood cleanup you are doing so much more than just tidying up and cleaning a city street. You are becoming a friend and neighbor to your fellow Angelenos and building the fiber of community that makes us all stronger and more resilient in the face of so many challenges that we face today. Community service is community love, and it goes much farther than the sidewalks and streets we help maintain. It's taking responsibility for our world and becoming the change we want to see.”

Rev. Sam Shin, President, Hwarang Youth Foundation

“We are proud to join Mayor Bass’ Shine LA to give back to our communities. At Hwarang Youth Foundation, we believe that youth leadership begins with service – and it was inspiring to see many young people step up to make our city cleaner, safer, and stronger. We look forward to continuing this important work together.”
