LOS ANGELES – Mayor Karen Bass today announced that she has appointed Rachel E. Freeman as Deputy Mayor for Business and Economic Development.
“The success of our business community is key to the success of our city,” said Mayor Bass. “Our team will work to make sure the challenges our businesses face are prioritized as we work together to make it clear that Los Angeles is open for business.”
Rachel Freeman, Deputy Mayor for Business and Economic Development - Rachel Freeman will oversee citywide economic policy, business development, land use and development services, trade, and tourism, and will oversee the non-safety operations of Los Angeles World Airports and the Port of Los Angeles. She will work closely with the Mayor and her Executive team to ensure alignment with Mayor Bass’ agenda to make Los Angeles a better place to live, work, and do business. Freeman currently serves as Senior Vice President, Real Estate for Tejon Ranch Company, overseeing land use and entitlements, sustainability, transportation/infrastructure and other development related activities within Los Angeles County. Prior to Tejon Ranch Company, she held the position of President & CEO at Capri Retail Services, LLC, a subsidiary of Capri Capital Partners, LLC, a real estate investment management firm, leading entitlements, property/asset management related initiatives in the Los Angeles region on behalf of major institutional investors. She also served on former Mayor Eric Garcetti’s Advisory Board of AAPI LA.
Kevin Keller will remain a Senior Advisor to Mayor Bass on implementation of Executive Directive #1 to accelerate permitting for affordable housing and temporary housing.
