LOS ANGELES – Los Angeles Mayor Karen Bass today commended the Los Angeles Board of Airport Commissioners’ appointment of John Ackerman as the next Los Angeles World Airports (LAWA) CEO:
“John brings proven executive leadership experience at two of the top airports in the world and an entire career’s worth of expertise in the aviation industry,” said Mayor Karen Bass. “He is ready to lead the department as it continues to undergo billions in capital improvement programs, work effectively with airport partners and community members, and push the envelope on equity and sustainability. I want to thank Commissioner Bea Hsu for serving as Interim CEO during this important period of transition. Her willingness to step in and lead through this time is a testament to her commitment to serving the people of Los Angeles.”
“The Board of Airport Commissioners conducted a comprehensive international search to recruit the most qualified leaders for the CEO role,” said Board of Airport Commissioners President Karim Webb. “I look forward to working closely with John to continue ensuring excellent project delivery of our capital improvement programs, enhancing the passenger experience, and advancing workforce and equity goals, while innovating our offerings to meet the moment of an evolving industry.”
John Ackerman brings decades of experience in the aviation industry. He previously held senior executive roles with Dallas Fort Worth International Airport (DFW) and Denver International Airport (DEN). Prior to his time at DFW, Ackerman served as the Chief Commercial Officer for DEN, where he led teams that transformed the customer experience at every touchpoint. In addition to leading major departments and initiatives at airports, Ackerman is also a trained pilot.
“I am so honored to accept this appointment to serve as the next CEO of Los Angeles World Airports,” said John Ackerman. “Thank you to Mayor Karen Bass and the Board of Airport Commissioners for providing me with this opportunity. I look forward to using the skills and knowledge I developed during my career to lead an exceptional organization and serve the City of Los Angeles.”
Ackerman’s appointment will now be referred to the Los Angeles City Council for consideration.
