Mayor Bass: Lineage and Chill Build Do Not Deserve to Rebuild

En Español

한국어

LOS ANGELES – Mayor Karen Bass today issued the following statement:

“At every turn, Lineage has failed to meet its responsibility to this community and to provide meaningful support to residents and small businesses. We still cannot get clear answers. The families and small businesses of Boyle Heights and East LA are the ones who continue to suffer every day this mess isn’t cleaned up.

“We cannot take them at their word. City personnel were inside the warehouse earlier today and food waste remains. The City will inspect again tomorrow. Lineage missed the August 14 deadline, they moved the goal post, and then they failed again. Lineage and Chill Build do not deserve to rebuild. I have also called on our City lawyers to pursue litigation, a lien, and all legal options for cost recovery and penalties.

“To the families of Boyle Heights and East LA: I will continue doing everything in my authority to demand the answers and accountability this community deserves. We have already provided temporary housing for more than 1,300 people, brought mobile health clinics directly into the community, secured thousands of air purifiers, and distributed masks, food, Metro cards, grocery cards, baby formula and diapers, financial assistance, fly traps, small business and employment assistance, utility assistance, and more. Please visit our Community Resource Center at Boyle Heights City Hall if you need any type of assistance.”
