LOS ANGELES – Los Angeles Mayor Karen Bass joined key Downtown L.A. stakeholders and public safety officials for a walk through the heart of downtown as part of her ongoing effort to revitalize the area. The Mayor was joined by members of the Central City Association and DTLA Alliance as well as representatives from Metro and LAPD to discuss key issues the area faces and ways the City can help address them. B-roll is available here

“As our work to revitalize Downtown L.A. continues, it’s important that we continue to engage and learn from peoples’ firsthand experiences,” said Mayor Karen Bass. “I want to thank CCA, the DTLA Alliance and the LAPD for their collaboration and commitment to revitalize Downtown L.A. back to the cultural and economic hub that represents the best of L.A.”

“Our work to revive downtown LA is about executing practical, immediate and achievable actions to make sure the heart of our city is safe, clean, and welcoming to all,” said Nella McOsker, CEO of the Central City Association. “We’re so grateful for the investments the mayor has made in downtown and for joining us to see their impacts first hand.”

Earlier in the day, Mayor Bass spoke at the groundbreaking of the Reyes Coca-Cola Bottling’s $47.5 million revitalization project at its Downtown Los Angeles facility — a historic monument that will be improved and modernized ahead of the 2028 Olympic and Paralympic Games. She also spoke with the LA Fashion District Business Improvement District (BID) Annual Meeting to discuss efforts to support the area, which has faced economic hardship since the beginning of the reckless immigration raids.

Mayor Bass has taken bold action to support downtown’s ongoing development:

  • Joined Downtown L.A. stakeholders, labor leaders and elected officials to officially start the expansion and modernization of the L.A. Convention Center – an economic engine for L.A. that will generate more than 15,000 jobs and draw in more than $150 million in additional visitor spending each year.
  • LAPD has designated teams of foot patrols to be eyes and ears on the ground and is preparing to deploy trained bike officers in downtown neighborhoods to prevent crime and make people feel safe.
  • A coordinated effort to remove graffiti, clear trash, and enhance the cleanliness of our major streets and public spaces.
  • Trained mental health teams are being deployed in priority areas like the Historic Core neighborhood.
  • Advanced plans to fast-track key permits for downtown developments.
  • Recognized Banc of California’s new move to lease 40,000 square feet in Downtown Los Angeles and add its signage to its historic skyline as a major boost for Downtown Los Angeles’ continued resurgence and the region’s economy.
