Shine LA brings Angelenos together through community-driven volunteer activations to build thriving neighborhoods and make long-term investments in the places they call home.

LOS ANGELES – Mayor Bass today joined Angelenos for Shine LA, marking one-year since the movement first launched. Since launching in April 2025, Shine LA has activated the full power of Los Angeles, bringing thousands of Angelenos together to build thriving communities they can be proud of. B-roll and photos of Shine LA can be found here.

“Over the last year, residents of all ages—children, parents, and grandparents— have shown immense pride for Los Angeles, creating thriving communities that are more connected and resilient,” said Mayor Bass. “Every month, we’ll continue to bring Angelenos together because when neighbors come together, we can build a stronger, more unified city for everyone.”

"The strength of South LA has always been its people,” said Council President Marqueece Harris Dawson. “Shine LA creates more opportunities for neighbors to come together and build on that strength. Thank you to the volunteers and Mayor Karen Bass for making this happen."

“When we invest in keeping our neighborhoods clean, we’re also investing in public safety, community well-being, and a stronger sense of belonging,” said Councilwoman Monica Rodriguez. “A clean Los Angeles is a safe Los Angeles, and I’m proud that Sylmar continues to lead by example by making our communities shine.”

“As we mark one year of Shine LA, thank you to Mayor Bass and to the residents and volunteers across the One-Five who show up day in and day out to care for our neighborhoods,” said Councilmember Tim McOsker. “These cleanups are about more than keeping our streets looking clean. They bring people together, build pride, and strengthen our communities. Today in Wilmington, we did more than clean, we came together in a way that strengthens our communities and helps them thrive.”

Shine LA fuels hyper-local activities, from beautification to service projects, that create broader economic, cultural, and environmental impact and connection for all Angelenos. The movement has also engaged more than a dozen corporate partners, who have volunteered, donated supplies and helped amplify the goal of Shine LA to activate every Angeleno, in every part of the city.

Volunteers gathered at service sites at the Venice Beach Recreation Center, Whitsett Fields, Algin Sutton Recreation Center, Sylmar Recreation Center, Wilmington Recreation Center, Griffith Park and the Sherman Oaks. Volunteers participated in activities ranging from tree care, median beautification to picnic table painting and bird feeder construction.

Angelenos can register for the next Shine LA on Saturday, May 16, 2026, by visiting mayor.lacity.gov/ShineLA.
