More than 400 firm employees joined the Shine LA movement to civically engage Angelenos ahead of major events coming to Los Angeles.

LOS ANGELES – Last week, Mayor Bass’ Shine LA movement brought together the largest professional service firms in the world, including PricewaterhouseCoopers (PwC), Ernst & Young LLP (EY US), and KPMG LLP for a day of service in Downtown Los Angeles. This instance of Shine LA demonstrated Mayor Bass’ continued commitment to a thriving Downtown Los Angeles with more than 400 firm employees participating in activities ranging from loose litter pick-up, tree planting and watering to rain barrel beautification and more. This effort continues Mayor Bass’ movement to strengthen neighborhoods across Los Angeles by inspiring civic engagement among Angelenos ahead of major events coming to LA. B-roll available here

“The private sector plays a critical role in communities across LA, including in Downtown LA,” said Mayor Bass. “I want to thank these firms for teaming up and taking the time to give back to this city and I look forward to building on this effort with other private sector organizations to continue delivering for Angelenos ahead of these major global events.”

“At PwC, we believe that a thriving business community is rooted in a thriving city—and that’s especially true in Los Angeles,” said Andy Sofield, Los Angeles Managing Partner, PwC. “Shine LA is a powerful example of what’s possible when the public and private sectors work together to reimagine and reinvest in shared spaces. We’re proud to contribute to creating a more vibrant and connected downtown and to support the initiatives that help move our city forward.”

“I’m deeply passionate about my hometown, and coming together with our peer firms to support our community — especially after a challenging year for LA — means the world to me and my teammates,” said Andy Park, EY Los Angeles Office Managing Partner and a lifelong Angeleno. “This year, we’re participating in Shine LA as part of EY Connect Day, our firm’s premier volunteer initiative. Thousands of EY professionals are coming together across the country to give back to our neighbors, and we’ll continue volunteering throughout the year as we build an even stronger LA.”

At KPMG, giving back to the communities where we live and work is one of our core values,” said Michelle Wroan, KPMG Los Angeles Managing Partner. “We’re proud to join Shine LA and help make LA even more beautiful ahead of these exciting global events, such as the Olympics and World Cup, in this world class city. Together, we can create a lasting impact for our city and its people.”

Shine LA has already brought together thousands of Angelenos at sites across Los Angeles to beautify neighborhoods ahead of major global events. With Shine LA hosted every fourth Saturday of the month, Angelenos can go to mayor.lacity.gov/ShineLA to be notified of the next Shine LA. Angelenos, community groups and businesses can also visit the website to partner with the Mayor's Office to sponsor Shine LA in their neighborhoods.

Mayor Bass has been focused on restoring Downtown to its legacy of being a vibrant hub of economic, cultural and civic life. Recently, she applauded both Reyes Coca-Cola Bottling for expanding and modernizing their facility in the Fashion District and Banc of California for expanding their footprint Downtown by leasing even more office space.

Additionally, Mayor Bass joined members of the Central City Association, DTLA Alliance, Metro for a walk through the heart of downtown to discuss the ways the City is addressing key issues in the area. Last month, Mayor Bass joined City leaders and Downtown stakeholders to break ground on the expansion and modernization of the LA Convention Center signaling a new era for Downtown.
