LOS ANGELES – Los Angeles Mayor Karen Bass joined partners from the Biden Administration and the Port of Los Angeles to launch Amazon’s largest fleet of heavy-duty electric trucks in the world earlier today serving the Ports of Los Angeles and Long Beach – an important step towards her efforts to reduce emissions, improve air quality in surrounding neighborhoods of the Port of L.A. and build a greener Los Angeles. The company is rolling out nearly 50 heavy-duty electric trucks in Southern California, adding to hundreds of electric vans already deployed throughout the state.
“We are locking arms with our partners in the private sector, which we know is required to confront the climate crisis, eliminate emissions from the transportation sector, and boost our local economy,” said Mayor Karen Bass. “Air pollution has long impacted our port adjacent communities here in Wilmington, Harbor City and San Pedro, not to mention all our neighbors in Long Beach and along the 710 freeway. Today, we continue to change that impact with a significant down payment in the clean goods movement thanks to our private partners coming together to invest in and advance new technology.”
Amazon is investing in electric vehicles around the world and this is their largest fleet of heavy-duty electric trucks. This deployment builds on Mayor Bass’ major investments as Los Angeles continues to lead on climate, including the creation of her new Climate Cabinet which will bring forward a new wave of accountability for city departments in order to reach Los Angeles’ climate goals, including reaching 100% clean energy by 2035.
